How often should you have your windows cleaned?

Every 4 weeks, every 8 weeks or per season? The rules of thumb per situation — and the moments an extra visit pays off.

The common rhythms are simple: the outside every 4 or 8 weeks as a fixed route visit, the inside 2 to 4 times a year. Which outside rhythm suits you depends mostly on location.

Choose 4-weekly if your windows soil fast: on a busy road (fine dust and soot), near the coast (salt residue), among lots of greenery (pollen and aphid residue) or in a new-build district still under construction. In a sheltered spot, 8-weekly or even quarterly is enough — you'll see it in how the windows look when the cleaner arrives.

There are also moments when an extra visit pays off: after pollen season (May-June), after the autumn storms, and just before a viewing, handover or party. For those, a one-off deep clean makes more sense than the route rate — it covers the backlog too.

Cleaning them yourself is fine at ground level. Above the first floor it becomes ladder work, and falling from height is the real risk — leave that to someone with the right equipment. A visit costs € 15 to € 35 for a regular home; all rates are in the price index.
